Getting your kids onto soup early is a great idea, because it's so versatile. Warming on a winters' day, it gives you the opportunity to use up any leftover veg and add if you add pulses (e.g. red lentils) or meat it becomes a hearty meal. Yes, it can be messy with children who've only just started to wean but make it thick and give them bread to dip in it and it could become a staple lunchtime meal. I really started to get back into cooking and baking in a big way again when my daughter was just starting to wean, simply because I knew what was in it - and what wasn’t.
