Halloween Treats

Halloween Treats

Here are some Halloween cake treats that I've had fun making with my daughter. The cakes all have a simple recipe that can be made in around 15 minutes and taste great!   Granny’s ghost cakes These Halloween cakes are really aimed for mums rather than the babies themselves! I used to love meeting up with my friends during maternity leave, having a good natter, asking questions, you know, the usual about sleeping habits, food, whether they are sitting up yet whilst drinking tea and eating cake! The cake ingredients belong to my mum's recipe - they are really simple,...

Pumpkin soup

"Babies + soup?? I don't think so!"  I hear you cry! Yes it can be messy but make it thick and give them bread to dip in it and it could become a staple lunchtime meal. Plus it's really healthy so feels good to get all that veg down them!  You may like to consider using one of our Long Sleeved Weaning Bibs though!  Prep time: 15 mins Cooking time: 30-45 mins N.B. be prepared to freeze some of this soup, it'll feed a couple of adults and children approximately two times over.  Ingredients Splash of oil or knob of unsalted...

American Pancakes

This is what we call our “New York Breakfast” (also known as Drop scones and Scotch pancakes). Before Emily, I used to make a Lorraine Pascal’s pancakes. The recipe included tablespoons of sugar (note plural!), a vanilla pod all of which were a no no once our daughter came along as I had visions of her bouncing off the ceiling from all the sugar! This recipe makes roughly a...

Cheese and spinach muffins

Cheese and spinach muffins

These are a great idea to bake if you have a bag of spinach left over and need to think of more creative ways to use it up! These muffins are fab as you can stick them in the freezer and just get them out one at a time. I like to warm them in the microwave for a few mins and the cheese will go gooey again! Prep time: 20 mins (getting into cases takes 5 mins) Cooking time: 20 mins   Ingredients 300g self-raising flour ½ tsp of mustard powder ½ tsp paprika  75g butter 185g grated...

Baked Egg Savoury Muffins Recipe

I use a very descriptive title because if I see ‘muffin’, I expect flour to be in them! When I was weaning my daughter, I cooked the equivalent Frittatas on the hob and even if I washed up straight away, a fried smell always seemed to linger. So since I’ve discovered these little beauties, they not only look better, smell better, they are easier to clean up afterwards.  They can also be kept in the fridge and frozen for older kids. Makes: 12 muffins Prep time: 10 minutes prep Cooking time: 15 minutes cooking   Ingredients 4 medium free range eggs A...
